Gustavo Dudamel Conducts Mahler

Farewell, subject of the Ninth, as the renunciation to fight the harshness of the human condition. A detachment that leads soul and body to be reconciled. Thus letting us glimpse a calm that Mahler’s music, hitherto so telluric, fiery and tortured, suggested as impossible. Transmuted in silence by this cathartic exercise, the score ends on a single harmony, synthesized in a single breath. A breath that could at the same time be that of God, that of the composer, like that of the listener, bewildered by the emotion born from this listening.
