Rossini Opera Festival: Le Comte Ory
Gioachino Rossini’s only French comedy, first performed at the Paris Opéra in 1828, is about the easy-going Count Ory, for whom no means is too outlandish to make a pass at the pretty Adèle, who is in turn adored by Ory’s page Isolier. He disguises himself first as a hermit, then as a nun – a turbulent comedy of confusion with an erotic background. “Juan Diego Flórez […] presents himself as a class of his own” (Die Presse). “Julie Fuchs was a superb Adèle […] the pinpoint accuracy of her coloratura was staggering” (Bachtrack.com).
