Wrongheaded
Wrongheaded is an award-winning socially conscious work created as a direct response to the on-going call for the repeal of the 8th amendment in the Irish Constitution that introduced a constitutional ban on abortion in 1983. With a landmark referendum in 2018 the amendment was finally overturned. However, approximately 25% of the world's population lives in countries with highly restrictive abortion laws including Malta Northern Ireland, and countries across Latin America, Africa and Asia. The work reflects the critical issue of these women and brings their physical and emotional stories to the screen through dance asking us all to bear witness to their need. Intense physicality in confined spaces and abstract poetic narratives portray a deep sense of desperation, struggle, loss and unrest. Created by three acclaimed Irish female artists; Choreographer Liz Roche, Poet Elaine Feeney and Director Mary Wycherley.
