Being and Nothingness
Being and Nothingness, set on Prima Ballerina Greta Hodgkinson and choreographed by Guillaume Côté is an amazing collaboration of two great artists (National Ballet of Canada Premiere Toronto Nov 22, 2013), and directed by award winning director; Alejandro Alvarez Cadilla. Funded by a Kickstarter campaign and filmed on location at L'Abbaye d'Oka in Oka, Québec, Being and Nothingness was specifically produced to transcend the limitation of theatres and make the best of dance available to everyone in everyday settings. It is an ideal piece to be viewed on video, with its delicate movement and subtle nuances, and will be available for download online at CrystalBallet.com Being and Nothingness is a reflection in dance of a key theme in Jean-Paul Sartre’s existential philosophy. Using the mesmeric repetitions of Philip Glass (Metamorphosis four), and a variety of subtly deployed choreographic strategies, Côté explores the shifting moments of consciousness that shape the nature of human identity constructed against the horizon of non-being.
