Dive

Cinedans FEST + dancescreen Jury Award 2022 for Best Dance Short

Dive is inspired by the French artist Yves Klein and his International Yves Klein Blue, which has become the world’s most famous colour shade. This teal-toned treat by Scottish Ballet’s choreographers Sophie Laplane and James Bonas features quintessentially quirky choreography paired with striking visuals.

Jury report: A film that lives up to its name: a danced dive in the world famous “International Yves Kleine Blue.” The jury appreciates the film's playful dialogue with the design and colors of the French artist, in an inventive choreography by James Bonas and Sophie Lapland, which references both the folly and the beauty of iconic dance moments. Oscar Samson's direction provides surprising twists and turns, enhanced by post-production, editing and special effects. “A delightful layered film with beautiful camera work, excellent dance, in which the surprising music reinforces this dive into the dance and Yves Klein again.”
