Yuri Grigorovich, the Golden Age

Entered by Bel Air Media
Submitted for dancescreen 2016

Yuri Grigorovitch was a head of Bolshoi Ballet for 31 year (1964-1995). It was one of the most glorious periods in Russian ballet’s history but also a controversial one. Made in the form of a letter to the choreographer, the film questions Yuri Grigorovitch’s carrer, full of contrasts and paradoxes. Is he a genius? A living monument? A despot? Without entering into polemical territory, Denis Sneguirev's film allows us to discover the many sides of a complex man living in a controversial moment of Russian history.
