Mahler’s Resurrection Staged By Romeo Castellucci From Aix-en-Provence Festival
Gustav Mahler’s most popular symphony in a radical staging by Romeo Castellucci at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence in the Vitrolles Stadium. The empty and neglected cube was partially renovated on Castellucci’s initiative. Here, people, animals and machines come together for a spectacular production: Earth is stirred up until buried bodies emerge. One thinks of a modern variant of the medieval depictions of the Last Judgement. An exceptional event in which – in combination with Mahler's powerful music – Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Orchestre de Paris break new artistic ground. Golda Schultz and Marianne Crebassa make their Festival debut.
