The concert with Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 7 was one of the emotional highlights of the festival that surrounded the inauguration of Andris Nelsons and was at the same time the official gala concert to celebrate the Gewandhausorchester’s 275th anniversary. What better way to celebrate than with a symphony that was premiered by the Gewandhausorchester under the baton of Arthur Nikisch in 1884? Since then, the symphony is cherished by the orchestra and audience alike and comes to new life under Andris Nelsons’ melodic and instinctive musical approach.
