Count Basie: Through His Own Eyes
Count Basie was one of the world’s most famous musicians, a bandleader and pianist whose "risk-taking musicians brought the Wild West into American music". Director Jeremy Marre uncovered intimate letters photo albums and unseen home movies that reveal a very different man from his public image. They expose his volatile relationship with his wife Catherine whose support for African-American causes placed her beside Martin Luther King, and they reveal – above all – Basie’s protective love for his mentally challenged daughter, Diane, "who was never out of his heart and mind".
