From The Arena Di Verona: Il Barbiere Di Siviglia
Rossini’s hilarious firework of sparkling melodies in a cheerfully imaginative staging from one of the most spectacular opera locations imaginable: Argentinian director Hugo de Ana turns the gigantic stage of the Roman amphitheater into a wonderland of opera. In de Ana’s “jardin d’amour” roses are taller than trees and butterflies have the wingspread of a hang-glider. With infectious joy of playing, a cast of stars and real darlings of the Arena’s audience (featuring Leo Nucci in his last appearance in Verona) bring all the rhythm and brilliance of Rossini’s score to life, celebrating the joy of opera on highest level.
