Jordan, Capuçon & Vienna Symphony: Strauss Tone Poems

  • Wiener Symphoniker © Stefan Olah

Cellist Gautier Capuçon lends Don Quixote a fine and delicate texture which is soothing to the ears. Philippe Jordan accompanies him from the podium, teasing out the score’s finer details, including the playful viola part and the commentary from the brass section of the Vienna Symphony. The Heldenleben is likely to be a passionate and emphatic affair, with a healthy dose of controlled Viennese opulence. The result: an evening of pure Strauss, not too high in calories, and thoroughly nourishing.
