The opera Matsukaze by composer Toshio Hosokawa is based on the Noh play of the same title. The work in German had its world premiere in 2011 at La Monnaie opera house in Belgium as a choreographic opera. With choreography by world-renowned Sasha Waltz, the opera received a great response. The film features the Japanese premiere of the performance where Hosokawa’s music depicting nature and mysterious profundity is brought together with Waltz’ direction that fuses dance and vocal songs.
