There is something very special about the music of Mikael ”Mika” Karlsson. Rythmical surprises combined with great knowledge of sound, genres and instrumentation, Mika creates chords and ”stimmungs” that are quite new and succeeds to reach beyond tradition. Last year, Mika wrote his first opera, The Echo Drift, premiered in New York. And new commissions keep him busy many years ahead. Operabeats attract both newcomers and a devoted kind of audience. Together with choreographer Alexander Ekman, Mika's compositions have reached huge audiences – on stage and as filmed versions distributed around the world; at the Royal Ballet in Stockholm, the Oslo Opera and the Garnier Opera, Paris.
