The London Symphony Orchestra – Sir Simon Rattle Conducts Birtwistle, Holst, Turnage And Britten With Philip Cobb And Gabor Tarkövi

  • © Oliver Helbig

As usual, Sir Simon Rattle opens the London Symphony Orchestra’s new season with an all-British programme. One of the high points of the concert: the world premiere of Fanfare, by Sir Harrison Birtwistle and Dispelling the Fears, the concerto for two trumpets by Mark-Anthony Turnage, The poetic Egdon Heath, which Gustav Holst considered his most-perfect composition, illuminates the evening before Britten’s monumental Spring Symphony, a powerful ode to “the reawakening of the earth and life.”
