Toulouse Capitole National Orchestra – Tugan Sokhiev Conducts Bruch And Shostakovich With Daniel Lozakovich

  • © Les Films Jack Fébus

Tugan Sokhiev continues his exploration of Shostakovich’s symphonies with his grandiose Fourth, composed under pressure from the Stalinist regime and Pravda’s attacks. It contains the bold orchestral concepts, scowling or despair-filled motifs, the contrasting timbres and rhythms that are the signature of that persecuted genius, early in his prolific career. Diametrically opposed to Shostakovich’s bleakness, the Toulouse Capitole National Orchestra called on 17-year-old prodigy Daniel Lozakovich to complete the programme by interpreting Bruch’s feisty and lyrical Violin Concerto No. 1.
