Dresden Music Festival 2019 Opening Concert – Pape, Bolton, Dresden Festival Orchestra
There could not have been a more glamorous opening of the Dresden Music Festival than this concert of the Dresden Festival Orchestra under Ivor Bolton’s baton. Together with Dresden-born singer René Pape the orchestra dove deeply into the romantic soul of Franz Schubert’s lieder. The concert opened with Carl Maria von Weber’s Euryanthe Overture, an opera which during his lifetime had no easy lot: the music was greatly praised, the libretto however was laughed at. Robert Schumann’s spring-like First Symphony, written in a blissful stage of his life shortly after his marriage to Clara Wieck, concluded this festive programme.
