The thread running through this concert is made up of arias from Händel’s Arianna In Creta, and in this context, Monteverdi’s Lamento D’Arianna could be considered to be the ur-lamento. The musical expression of lonely grief pierces the soul. And in Locatelli’s concerto grosso Pianto d’Arianna, a disconsolate solo violin sobs, lamenting, cursing and imprecating her beloved Theseus. Who could bring tears to the audience’s eyes better than Hana Blažiková in the role of Arianna? The Czech soprano is famous for her intuitive, emotional and direct musicality.
