Lucia Di Lammermoor

  • Lucia di Lammermoor © Michael Poehn / ORF – Austrian Broadcasting Corporation

Donizetti composed his Lucia Di Lammermoor in the course of a few weeks – nevertheless it is one of the most important and popular masterpieces of Italian romantic opera. The opera is full of melodic richness and features impressive musical-psychological interpretations of the characters. Donizetti opened up the rigid form scheme of the belcanto opera and embedded the protagonists Lucia (Olga Peretyatko), Edgardo (Juan Diego Flórez) and Enrico (George Petean) in the emotional triangle of love, hate and passion. The highlight is undoubtedly the extremely challenging scene of Lucia's insanity.
