New Classic Viola

  • © New World Symphony

Every year, the New World Symphony is presenting a week-long festival about an instrument in the orchestra. MTT decided to begin with the viola because of its amazing tradition and the new directions and ideas about what the instrument can do. The viola has a wide range of roles in solo and chamber music, music with electronics, and solo concerti of all kinds. It’s an exciting frontier. This concert features Higdon's Concerto For Viola and Orchestra, Feldman's The Viola In My LIfe IV, and a world premiere of Steve Mackey's elaboration of Berlioz' Harold In Italy.
