The Gypsy Influence
Subject of the documentary is the tremendous influence of so-called Gypsy music on classical composers from Haydn and Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms, to Lehár and Kálmán, Ligeti and Kurtág. In a second narrative, closely connected to the first, the film portrays past and present of Gypsy bands. Main protagonists are the violinists Barnabás Kelemen and Lajos Sárközi Jr., both from musical families with a long tradition. The film also includes interviews with Vilde Frang and Shlomo Mintz.
