The Los Angeles Philharmonic Centennial Birthday Celebration Concert
This one-of-a-kind 100th birthday celebration on the very date of the LA Phil’s first performance culminates in a baton-waving conductor’s summit: The repertoire is a true reflection of the LA Phil’s DNA. If you’re wondering why the New York Times called the LA Phil “America’s most important orchestra. Period.”, look no further than this concert’s programme: Zubin Mehta leads Ravel’s arresting depiction of the waltz, Esa-Pekka Salonen then leads the 4th Symphony by the late Polish composer Witold Lutosławski. Gustavo Dudamel follows with one of Stravinsky’s most beloved ballet scores. And finally, Daníel Bjarnason’s world premiere utilises all three conductors.
