The Six Symphonies By Bohuslav Martinů

  • © Martin Kubala

Each movement of each symphony is followed by a documentary section introducing Martinů’s work and putting it in context with his immensely interesting creative and personal life. Sadly, conductor Jiří Bělohlávek, who was supposed to conduct the whole cycle, died during the making of the documentary. His protégé Jakub Hrůša, currently Chief Conductor of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, took over to finish the project with the Czech Philharmonic. Hrůša also appears in the documentary sections, providing an excellent introduction to The Six Symphonies by Bohuslav Martinů.
