Paul Dukas wrote only one opera. Created in 1907 in Paris from a libretto by Maurice Maeterlinck, the opera in three acts or musical tale Ariane Et Barbe Bleue (Ariane And Blue Beard) tells the adventure of Ariane, last and sixth wife of Blue Beard. One day, her husband gives her seven keys while formally forbidding her to use one. Ariane, intrigued, discovers that this seventh key opens a door that encloses... his five previous wives. They must be rescued! The heroine then embarks on a rescue operation but runs into some resistance. And not necessarily the one we believe…
