Belisario

Belisario is a lyric tragedy in three parts first performed in 1836 but since then rather neglected. Donizetti revolves this work around the 6th-century Byzantine general, who is falsely accused by his wife of killing their son and therefore is blinded and exiled as his punishment. His reputation will be restored too late to save his life. This performance in concert form is recorded at the renewed Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo with a stellar cast featuring Plácido Domingo in the title role.
