Fidelio – From Theater An Der Wien

The premiere of Ludwig van Beethoven’s opera Fidelio at Theater an der Wien, directed by Austrian actor and Oscar winner Christoph Waltz, was supposed to be a grand prelude for the composer’s 250th anniversary commemorations. Due to the Corona pandemic, the opening night and all performances were cancelled by decree. Despite difficult circumstances the ORF and Vereinigte Bühnen Wien realized a unique television recording of this special opera production on short notice, bringing culture and music into the homes, even at a time, when opera and concert halls had to remain closed.
