Beethoven Mass In C Major
The Teatro Massimo di Palermo and its chief conductor Omer Meir Wellber chose Ludwig van Beethoven's Mass op. 86 to start the concert season after the standstill due to the Corona pandemic. The Mass in C major for four soloists, choir and orchestra is considered the “smaller sister” of the famous Missa Solemnis. It is preceded by Ella Milch-Sheriff's composition Der Ewige Fremde (The Eternal Stranger) based on a text by the Israeli writer Joshua Sobol. It tells the stranger's journey to Vienna, to the music that Beethoven dreamed of and which he wrote down the next morning.
