In The Shadow Of The Red October – Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, Shostakovich
2017 marked the 100th anniversary of the Russian October Revolution. The rise to power of the Bolsheviks changed the world forever and with it the lives of millions of people. This is also reflected in the lives and works of three great Russian composers of the 20th century: Dmitri Shostakovich, who was never able to escape the power of the Soviet state, Sergei Rachmaninoff, who used a concert tour to escape from Russia and never saw his homeland again, and Sergei Prokofiev, who returned to Soviet Russia after compositional successes in the West at the time of the great terror.
