La Traviata

Giuseppe Verdi's La Taviata is not only one of the composer's most popular operas, but also one of the most frequently performed and most beautiful, if tragic, love stories in opera literature. Whore and saint – a woman torn between social conventions and a great love affair is embodied with ravishing pain by the young soprano Irina Lungu. When she sighs "è tardi", no eye remains dry. Audience favourite Plácido Domingo fills the role of father Giorgio Germont impressively and with a powerful voice, Pavol Breslik is an agile Alfredo in this production of the Vienna State Opera.
