Salzburg Festival: Igor Levit
In the year that marked Beethoven's 250th and the Salzburg Festival's 100th birthday, Igor Levit performed all 32 Beethoven sonatas at the Salzach. On eight memorable evenings of this already memorable Festival, the pianist has remeasured these landscapes. Anyone who has heard even a part of them will not be able to avoid recording the still young pianist for good in the Olympus of the piano gods. The last three sonatas, op. 109, 110 and 111, were a real highlight: the degree of immersion and the brooding search for the essence of these musical texts are rarely reached.
