St John Passion From Leipzig's St Thomas Church For Tenor, Harpsichord & Percussion

  • Benedikt Kristjánsson in Leipzig 2020 © Stephan Flad

On Good Friday in Leipzig, performances of Bach's Passions are a matter of course. In 2020, in the face of the Corona pandemic, it is the first time in about 150 years that the people have to miss this event. In June 2020, at the Bachfest, a gripping version of Bach's St John Passion was to be performed by only three people around the Icelandic tenor Benedikt Kristjánsson. This version was broadcast on Good Friday at the hour of Christ's death in the empty Thomaskirche at Bach's grave.
