Summer Night Concert 2020

Due to the Corona situation, the Wiener Philharmoniker had to postpone their gala concert in the festively illuminated gardens of Schönbrunn Palace from May to mid-September. The Russian conductor Valery Gergiev participated in the big open-air event for the fourth time; as a special highlight German tenor Jonas Kaufmann was making his debut in Schönbrunn. The programme focused mainly on the world of opera with works by Strauss, Wagner and Puccini, as well as Offenbach and Massenet. But also so-called “catchy tunes” by Kálmán, Maurice Jarre and Aram Khatschaturian were performed, followed by the annual ending waltz, Viennese Blood by Johann Strauss.
