Assembly Of Rare Musical Instruments! Let The Ancient Notes Travel To The Future

  • © NHK – Japan Broadcasting Corporation

The program focuses on rare musical instruments that have been handed down in Japan including the konghou, a mysterious musical instrument that was revived today after the passage of more than a thousand years, and Yanagawa shamisen that is said to be the original form of the three-stringed shamisen. The tone colors of the wondrous instruments will be featured through music including a new piece titled “Choju-gigaku” presented by restored musical instruments from the Asuka and Nara Periods. Later in the program, artists will perform the jiuta (a style of traditional Japanese music) masterpiece “Kurokami” on a shamisen linked to jiuta master Hase Kengyo as well as the jazz piano.
