Charpentier: Grands Motets. Les Arts Florissants Directed By William Christie At The Royal Chapel Of Versailles
Les Arts Florissants take their name from an opera by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, one of the most significant composers of the French baroque era. Performed here is the ravishing H 147 of Charpentier’s, his Te Deum. Among the other sacred Grand Motets included in the program are the Pestis Mediolanensis, Pange Lingua, Litanies de la Vierge, and Nuptiae Sacrae, all sung with the exquisite purity we have come to expect from the voices of Les Arts Florissants. We are also treated to excerpts from an instrumental work, the Sonata for two German flutes and other various instruments. This concert represents a glittering jewel in the crown of baroque performance practice.
