Back To Tonhalle – An Architectural Journey

Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich finally returns to its home by the lake. And so does its audience. The renovation of the Kongresshaus and the adjoining Tonhalle took four years. The goal was to recreate the original state of the 1895 Tonhalle to the extent possible. Thousands of liters of gray paint were scraped off, the ceiling painting restored. The columns now carry their former rosy shine and the gold-plated ballustrade swings gracefully through the hall. SRF filmed the renovation over the entire four years. At the occasion of the reopening Sternstunde Musik is showing a 25-minute documentary by Barbara Seiler.
