Griselda
Alessandro Scarlatti, father of the dramma per musica and of the aria with da capo (and of Domenico, one of the greatest baroque keyboard musicians), composed La Griselda on a libretto by Apostolo Zeno modified by an anonymous author – perhaps Francesco Maria Ruspoli – and based on the last novel of Boccaccio’s Decameron (set between Sicily and Puglia), a very popular text which was set to music by many composers, from Albinoni to Paër and Massenet. This is a fine baroque opera in world première, conducted by George Petrou, directed by Rosetta Cucchi, and with a cast of Italian baroque specialists.
