Josip Ipavec, The Slovenian Mozart
The Slovenian composer Josip Ipavec (1873–1921) came from a famous family of composers and doctors from Šentjur near Celje. He is considered an important author of Lieder and choral music, while his most prominent works are the first Slovenian ballet A Little Man (Možiček) and the opera The Dizzy Princess (Princesa Vrtoglavka). In his choral compositions, he clearly expressed his love for his country and for the Slovenian language – at a time when German was spoken and written in the Slovenian lands.
