Krystian Zimerman: The Enigma Plays Brahms
It was a special summit when the mysterious Krystian Zimerman and the charismatic Leonard Bernstein set foot on stage in 1983 in Vienna. The spirits could not have been more different: Bernstein, media’s darling, exciting the audience with impulsive dance interludes and using strong facial expressions to lead the orchestra. And Zimerman, publicity shy, who meticulously prepares every nuance of his playing and is known to immediately cancel a concert if his standards of perfection are not met. The result is a flow of extreme richness of nuances – and a reference record to date.
