L’Orfeo

In order to find Eurydice, who’s disappeared on their wedding day, the singer Orpheus must charm the netherworld with his divine art. His complaints will eventually prompt Pluton to free Eurydice, under certain conditions… By the end of the ordeal, the master of harmony turns out to be a profoundly human infallible figure, inheriting from Monteverdi’s sensitivity. On 24th February 1607, in Mantoue, the creation of L’Orfeo gave birth to a new form of art, where theatre meets music: opera. Jordi Savall goes back to the source with the Concert des Nations. With Marc Mauillon, Pauline Bayle brings this universal inner drama to life.
