Staatskapelle Berlin & Daniel Barenboim – Beethoven, Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral”
The Staatskapelle Berlin and its chief conductor Daniel Barenboim continue their symphonic Beethoven cycle with this recording of Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony. The cycle started with an acclaimed performance of the Ninth on Berlin’s Bebelplatz and goes on in the Lindenoper. Nature was often Beethoven’s companion during his long solitary walks in the countryside near Vienna. His communion with nature brought forth the “Pastoral” Symphony. Its first performance took place in Vienna on 22 December 1808. Each of the five movements (it is Beethoven’s only five-movement symphony) bears a descriptive title, suggesting a scene from country life.
