The Myth Of Otello

For over four centuries, Ot(h)ello has been one of the great classics of theater and opera. The play has always been received as a tale of love, intrigue and murder, with a touch of the exotic. Othello has never caused scandal or debate. This has changed in recent years. Motifs such as cultural identity and racism are increasingly becoming the focus of interpretations of the work. The film takes a fresh look at the history of the drama's creation and reception, and explores what Shakespeare's stage classic and Verdi’s opera can tell us about everyday racism of today.
