Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra – Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 3 In D Minor – Salzburg Festival 2021
The performance of Gustav Mahler's monumental, six-movement Symphony No. 3 at the Salzburg Festival 2021 was a very special occasion. Andris Nelsons, one of the most renowned and innovative conductors among the international classical music scene, conducted the Vienna Philharmonic. The alto solo in the fourth movement to Friedrich Nietzsche's text from "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" was performed by the Lithuanian singer Violeta Urmana, who has long been associated with Salzburg. The choral parts in the fifth movement of the symphony were performed by the Salzburg Festival and Theatre Children's Choir and the Bavarian Radio Choir.
