From The Arena Di Verona: "Carmen" By Georges Bizet

Carmen belongs to the imperishable and most successful masterpieces of opera history. Franco Zeffirelli created a total of three Carmen stagings in Verona. In time for Zeffirelli’s 100th anniversary the Arena di Verona presented 2022 a “best” of those with the original scenes. An absolute highlight-performance – the Arena had assembled a cast of outstanding singing-actors led by the Latvian mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča. With her wide mezzo range, she is regarded as “the best Carmen of our time”. The leading role of Don José was acted and sung brilliantly by the American star tenor Brian Jagde.
