Heinrich Schütz: The Founder Of German Baroque Music
While the Thirty Years' War raged around him with the plague and crop failures that caused hunger and poverty the German composer Heinrich Schütz wrote the soundtrack of his time. But what kind of music do people need whose existence is surrounded by pain, suffering and death? Schütz devotes his entire oeuvre to this question. The search for a sound that gives comfort, to which one can mourn, and which evokes peace, leads him from Weißenfels to Venice, from Dresden via Breslau to Copenhagen. Heinrich Schütz was one of the first 'Europeans' in music history.
