Joana Mallwitz - Conductor (WT) is the portrait of a modern orchestra leader who tackles her work with the utmost enthusiasm and always in dialog with her musicians as well as the audience. The film accompanies her in a decisive phase of her international career up until her inauguration as the first female chief conductor of one of Berlin’s renowned orchestras. It traces the genesis of her interpretations, her art of communication, and her sometimes almost imperceptible gestures. It also tells the story of an empathetic leader and her everyday challenges, oscillating between limelight and retreat, career and family, control and trust.
