NHK Symphony Orchestra “Hotto” Concert
Known here as “N-kyo (Japanese abbreviation of the orchestra) ‘Hotto’ (Japanese word that could mean ‘hot’ or ‘soothing’) Concert,” the event is held every summer for children. This year, the lineup included fine pieces associated with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, ranging from masterpieces performed by the full orchestra to music performed by the orchestra for the first time in Japan. In the first half, "Sero hiki no goshu” (Gauche the Cellist), written by leading writer of children’s literature Kenji Miyazawa, was presented with music. In Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins, Fuminori Maro Shinozaki, the concert master of the NHK Symphony Orchestra, and fifth-grader Gakuto Koide performed as soloists.
