Eötvös: Sleepless – World Premiere From Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Berlin
Awarded “World Premiere of the Year” by Opernwelt magazine, the opera Sleepless adapts the bestselling short story by the Norwegian writer Jon Fosse. Hungarian conductor-composer Péter Eötvös, one of the most important figures in contemporary music, and librettist Mari Mezei interweave snapshots of the existential search for belonging, crime as a response to human indifference and the struggle with a sense of being out of place. The performance marks the Lindenoper debut of the Hungarian film, theatre and opera director Kornél Mundruczó, well known for cinematic realism that often addresses contemporary social themes. “Thunderous applause with many bravos” (Die Zeit).
