Salzburg Festival: Vienna Philharmonic, Elīna Garanča & Christian Thielemann – Brahms And Bruckner
To mark the bicentenary of Anton Bruckner’s birth in 2024, Christian Thielemann, the Wiener Philharmoniker and Unitel record the first Bruckner cycle with a single conductor in the orchestra's history. Thielemann shapes Bruckner's 9th symphony as a combination of the monumental and the delicate, of tension and relaxation in all its facets. In the first part, he joins forces with Latvian star mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča for Brahms’ Alto Rhapsody. “Is there another conductor (and another orchestra) who understands how to combine the sound of the Wagner tubas with that of the woodwinds in such a perfect way?” (Wiener Zeitung).
