Shizu No Odamaki In Tsurugaoka Hachimangu
At the open pavilion called “Maiden” of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu in Kamakura, a venerated shrine with a history of more than 800 years, popular and talented young kabuki performer Onoe Ukon presents the dance “Shizu no Odamaki” as a beautiful dancing girl. The motif of the dance is the tale of tragic love between Minamoto no Yoshitsune, one of the most popular warriors in Japanese history, and his concubine, Shizuka Gozen. The dance of Shizuka Gozen, who lived up to her love instead of yielding to power in the war-torn era, is revived on the stage lit by the autumn moon.
