Senar – Rachmaninoff's Green Summers
Between 1932 and 1939, the Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff lived in a Villa on lake Lucerne in Switzerland: Villa Senar. Rachmaninoff usually holidayed in Switzerland where he could wholeheartedly devote himself to composing his music. In Hertenstein he relived his childhood memories in Russia - in harmony with nature. There he found the peace and quiet he needed to compose Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and Symphony No 3. Through interviews with the conductors Gianandrea Noseda and Paavo Järvi, the architect Luca Ortelli and the pianist Francesco Piemontesi, the documentary provides essential insight into the composer’s life.
