Steven Isserlis In Tokyo

  • © NHK‐Japan Broadcasting Corporation

Steven Isserlis has taken a strong interest in historical styles of rendition and frequently performs with period instrument orchestras. At the same time, he is enthusiastic about modern music and has a wide repertoire. This time, he presented pieces by Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich. Based on his believe that warm sounds created by gut strings befit Rachmaninoff’s Cello Sonata, he used them in this concert. The audience was enthralled by the rich ensemble of Isserlis and Canadian pianist Connie Shih.
